Head Under Water (released as single 9th October 2020)
Songwriter – Megan O’Neill
This song deals with that point post-break-up where you keep coming back together, trying to make things right. But inevitably you know that it’s all going to end in disaster and that the healthiest thing to do is to take time apart and figure out who you are alone.
lyrics
I know if we make love, it’ll only break us down
We’ll be caught up in the moment, wishing we could work this out
But a temporary high, is not gonna make this right
So I know if we make love, it’ll only break us down
Maybe we can try and turn this thing around
Try and find a middle ground
But we can make this right between the sheets
Maybe we can end up in a better place
If we’re brave and if we face
All the ghosts we love to hide beneath
CHORUS
So I wish the ground would open up, swallow me whole
Take my soul
And wash it clean, I can’t breathe,
My head’s under water
I wish the gates of hell, could burn my skin
Let me begin
To shed these layers, even though I’m scared
My head’s under water
head’s under water (yeah)
I know if we fight this, we will never right this wrong
We’ll be running round in circles, knowing that we can’t go on
This temporary high, is not gonna make this right
So I know if we fight this, we will never right this wrong
Try and turn this thing around
Try and find a middle ground
But we can make this right between the sheets
Maybe we can end up in a better place
If we’re brave and if we face
All the ghosts we love to hide beneath
CHORUS
So I wish the ground would open up, swallow me whole
Take my soul
And wash it clean, I can’t breathe,
My head’s under water
I wish the gates of hell, could burn my skin
Let me begin
To shed these layers, even though I’m scared
My head’s under water
head’s under water (yeah)

There is soul music...
and there is music for the soul.
Danni Nicholls deserves to be a household name, her music familiar in every household collection.
For a live album to pack this much of a punch says so much about the artist.
Her songwriting. Her beautiful voice. Her self confessed vulnerability and fragility.
This truly is a piece of musical art. Brian Doig
