Ireland (released May 2020)
Songwriter – Megan O’Neill
I wrote Ireland when I was still living in London and I’d been residing abroad for 6 years at that stage. When I was growing up, I honestly couldn’t wait to get out of Ireland and see the world. I grew up in a tiny village where everyone knows everyone and when I was a teenager, I longed for the opposite of that – anonymity and city life. But when I got that I realised that actually, city life isn’t really me! I missed Ireland so much – the people, the culture, the community, the scenery… And I wrote this song about falling in love with Ireland once I had left.
I know, you get colder in the winter
I remember that snow like it was yesterday
Every year, we’re both getting older
I thought I’d be back to you by now, but I’m still on my way
There’s a saying isn’t there
That home is where the heart is
But I swear, every part of me is there
So I’ll take your rain instead of sun
The green of your hills and the summer that never lasts long
The way you’ve made the whole world fall in love with your dance and your song
And I’ve only learned to love you, now that I am gone
Ireland you’re my home
I miss sitting by, an open fire, just talking
Telling tales and singing trad all night
With an open bottle, and warm hearts all around me
Walking home in the rain, in the half light
There’s a saying isn’t there
That home is where the heart is
But I swear, every part of me is there
So I’ll take your rain instead of sun
The green of your hills and the summer that never lasts long
The way you’ve made the whole world fall in love with your dance and your song
And I’ve only learned to love you, now that I am gone
Ireland you’re my home
There’s a saying we all know
May the road rise up to meet you, wherever you go
I hope that road is leading home
So I’ll take your rain instead of sun
The green of your hills and the summer that never lasts long
The way you’ve made the whole world fall in love with your dance and your song
And I’ve only learned to love you, now that I am gone
Ireland you’re my home

There is soul music...
and there is music for the soul.
Danni Nicholls deserves to be a household name, her music familiar in every household collection.
For a live album to pack this much of a punch says so much about the artist.
Her songwriting. Her beautiful voice. Her self confessed vulnerability and fragility.
This truly is a piece of musical art. Brian Doig
