Should’ve Known Better
Songwriters – Megan O’Neill, David Dunwell, Joseph Dunwell
A song written about our struggles with the music industry! The constant questioning in those early stages of your career in particular, where you’re wondering if you’re doing the right thing chasing this. The song came from that place of questioning and struggle, when you’re broke and exhausted and tired of being shot down at every turn – maybe we should have known better! But the chorus concludes by saying “I can’t see the world through someone else’s eyes” – I know beneath it all that I have to live my own life and make my own mistakes – I could never learn from someone else’s.
lyrics
Train, rolling back in
Empty pockets, empty bottle of gin
I should’ve known better, I should’ve tried harder
I should’ve held tighter
Thoughts, thrown on the tracks
Can only go forward cause I’m not going back
I should’ve known better, I should’ve tried harder
I should’ve held tighter
But who am I, to say I didn’t try
When I’m the one who laid it on the line
Who would I be if I didn’t go
I would never know
[CHORUS]
I should’ve known better, I should’ve tried harder
But I’d rather fall than not try at all
I should’ve played safer
But then I realized
I can’t see the world through someone else’s eyes
Oh my, oh my
This fate, I’ve brought on myself
No I ain’t gonna blame anyone else
Just gonna try harder, gonna be honest
With myself
But who am I, to say I didn’t try
When I’m the one who laid it on the line
Who would I be if I didn’t go
I would never know
[CHORUS]
I should’ve known better, I should’ve tried harder
But I’d rather fall than not try at all
I should’ve played safer
But then I realized
I can’t see the world through someone else’s eyes
Oh my, oh my
[BRIDGE]
Hold on / hold on / it’s all in my mind
Hold on / hold on / it’s all in my mind
[CHORUS]
I should’ve known better, I should’ve tried harder
But I’d rather fall than not try at all
I should’ve played safer
But then I realized
I can’t see the world through someone else’s eyes
Oh my, oh my
Hold on / hold on / it’s all in my mind
Hold on / hold on / it’s all in my mind

There is soul music...
and there is music for the soul.
Danni Nicholls deserves to be a household name, her music familiar in every household collection.
For a live album to pack this much of a punch says so much about the artist.
Her songwriting. Her beautiful voice. Her self confessed vulnerability and fragility.
This truly is a piece of musical art. Brian Doig
